The 1998 Winter Olympic Games were held in Nagano Japan. Leading up to the games, the US Postal Service released a stamp featuring a skier as a nod to the popular skiing events. After producing 80 million stamps a pretty big mistake was brought to their attention. Based on the buckles of the boots the skier featured on the stamp appeared to have two left feet. They released the stamp anyway.

The rubber patch is sewn on to a deadstock leather strapback hat that was made around the same time the original stamps were produced. I sourced the hats from a vintage wholesaler who had a nice collection of blank hats. These ones are a mid crown/low profile fit. Best for medium and smaller heads. If you have a large noggin or very thick hair then I would not recommend this style for you.
